First, I have to concede that I’m a novice when it comes to studio recording. The unit’s not perfect and it can’t deliver 100% of a unit costing 10x as much, but for $300 you have to have one or more. If you want the opto sound compression, I can’t think of a stereo unit under $1000 that really hammers this little VLA. Gear snobs may have an issue – but who cares.

I slapped the Pro MPA on the control room outs to the speakers and let the pre act as a buffer and warming device. I think it sounds better than the direct outs for what I needed from those speakers in there. The compressor can be useful in that it thickens the sound a bit and is not very aggressive. I just got some very good results using the preamp for room mics .

Aside from two vacuum tubes, there are no user serviceable parts inside. Refer any service work to qualified technical personnel only.
